
Varied and miscellaneous environment of territory of the Písek district is reflected in a rich variety of Protected areas. The largest pond �?ežabinec (104 ha) and the adjoining pools are protected as national nature reserve. The purpose of this protection is to preserve the species variety of the society of hygrophilous plants and water-bound bird species. The nature reserve is also important as a stop of birds migrating in autumn from the north of Europe to their winter residence areas and in spring on their back ways. The international importance of the nature reserve “�?ežabinec, �?ežabinec pools” was expressed with classification of this area into the European network of protected areas within the programme “Natura 2000. This national nature reserve, together with other 26 protected areas, is presented in a permanent exposition of the museum.
